Gísli Pálsson er prófessor emeritus í mannfræði við Háskóla Íslands. Hann lauk doktorsprófi frá Manchester-
háskóla árið 1982, hefur síðan fjallað um margs konar viðfangsefni, mörg hver tengd umhverfismálum. Meðal bóka hans eru An Awkward Extinction: The Great Auk and the Loss of Species (töluvert breytt útgáfa á Fuglinum sem gat ekki flogið), The Human Age: How We Created the Anthropocene Epoch and Caused the Climate Crisis (2020), Maðurinn sem stal sjálfum sér (2017) og Nature, Culture, and Society: Anthropological Perspectives on Life (2015).
